Dear Parents,

Well, here we are nearing the last day of school…  the closing of one door and the opening of another!

Let me begin by saying “Thanks” to all of you for helping your child at home this year. The children have grown so much and each one is now ready to meet the challenges of next year.

Thanks to all of the parents that have spent time helping in the classroom or making things for our class.  I couldn’t have done it without you!

And lastly, and most importantly, to every one of my students… to each child with whom I have spent and shared the last ten months of my life, I say “Thanks”.

Thanks kids,
for the love,
for the memories,
for the learning!

To my students, I say thanks, for when I teach, I also learn. We have grown together.

Let your child know that he or she is loved every day. And thank you for allowing me to be your child’s kindergarten teacher!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Deborah Black

Dear Parents,

Your child’s report card along with his/her final grades for the year were sent home today with your child. I also made some things to do over the summer break with your child. Your child will be tested when he/she enters the first grade to be ranked within their classroom so please practice over the summer. Have your child write daily about a topic. Practice reading the SIPPS charts and easy reader’s books. Make sure that your child practices the sounds of the letters as that test will be timed. Practice sounding out simple consonant-vowel-consonant words and review the high frequency words. For students that are doing well on the high frequency words, I have included the 100 high frequency words for first grade.

I have included the beginning first grade math. If your child practices these concepts at home with you over the summer, it will be easier for them when they are introduced to the concepts in the beginning of the year in a whole group setting of first grade. Also practice #s from 1-100.

If you have any questions regarding the report card, please feel free to call me at 336-8902. I look forward to seeing all of you at the graduation on Thursday at 8:15! Bring your cameras! It has been a pleasure to teach this class. I want to thank all of you for your support this year! The kids have been great and they have learned so much! I know that they will be successful first graders!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Black

Dear Parents,

Mark your calendars for some upcoming important events!

Our Annual Art Festival will be this Thursday, May 23rd from 1:30 – 5:30. Your child’s artwork will be on display. There will also be booths with games and crafts. I will have a picture booth for kids and families to take a picture with me for my memory book. Please be sure to stop by and take your picture with me!

School will be closed in celebration of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th.

Our graduation ceremony will be on Thursday, June 6th at 8:15-9:00. Mrs. Hernandez has said that all students must wear uniforms on that day… even the 6th graders are being asked to wear uniforms to their graduation. That day will be our early dismissal day.

Friday, June 7th we will have a party for the last day of school. Please bring any goodies that you would like to donate for the party.

Have a great week!

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of you that made last week so special for me. The kindness is much appreciated! The cards, letters, flowers, food and gifts meant more than you could ever know, especially since this will be my last year of teaching. I am sure that some of you have heard the rumors that I am retiring and yes… it is true. This is why this year with the children is so very special to me!

We had a fabulous zoo trip last week. The kids had a great time seeing the animals and learning about their habitats.

I hope that all of the mother’s enjoyed the big sunflowers with the petals of chores to be completed by your little one and the picture frame with your child’s picture in it! The kids were so proud and they worked really hard to make them! Hope you all had a “Happy Mother’s Day”!

We will be testing for the next few weeks so please send your child to school on time and well rested. Study all of the things that we had discussed throughout the year. I am sure that the kids are well prepared and will do very well.

Mark your calendars for the “Art Festival” on Thursday, May 23rd from 1:30-5:30. Your kids have some fabulous artwork that will be on display. There will be art displays, art booths, student performances, music, food, and fun for the whole family! You won’t want to miss it!

Thanks again for all of your kind wishes!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Black
