Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, October 31st, our class will have a party for Halloween. Please remember that students are not allowed to come to school in costumes. However, students are exempt from wearing uniforms if they wear orange and black for “School Spirit Day” on Wednesday.

We really would appreciate a bag of candy for trick-or-treat bags for the children by Tuesday. Thank you for all your support!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Black

  4. Number Bingo
Simple number bingo boards can be made out of sheets of cardboard by drawing squares and putting in various numbers or numbers of dots in each square. Also make a stack of numbers for the caller to use. Play bingo!

Dear Parents,

We have begun studying the autumn season. We talked about the changes in the weather and about how the trees have leaves that change colors during this season. We will study more about the autumn as the season progresses. The students drew themselves by a tree in the fall. They wrote the sentence “I like autumn.” We also began our unit on “apples”.

We studied the book “Fall Leaves” and the kids made their own book. They had to illustrate the book and put the word “like” in the correct place in the sentence on each page. They have bee pointing to the words as they read the book in small groups with the teachers. Ask your child to read the book to you. Have them point to the words as they recite the book.

We are also writing the following sentences:
I see ____.
I can ____.
You like ____.
You see ____.
I like ____.
You can ____.
I can see ____.
You can see ____.

Make flashcards of the words “I”, “like”, “you”, “can”, and “see” and practice these words with your child daily. Have your child practice writing these words in sentences at home. Also practice reading the Story Charts that I have been sending home with the homework. You will find high frequency words patterned throughout these charts.

We continue to work through the entire alphabet. Please practice writing the letters in upper and lower case with your child. Make sure that he/she is forming the letters correctly. It is most important that your child begins each letter at the correct place on the lines. Have your child say the name and the sound of the letter as he/she is writing it.

During math we have studied numbers and their values (0-10). We are learning about top, middle, and bottom as well as first, next, and last. We discussed day and night. We learned the concepts of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We also worked on the meaning of over, under, and behind. Please do activities at home to check your child on the understanding of all of these concepts.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Black
