Dear Parents,

Happy November! Where has the time gone? I can’t believe it is November already!

“Fright Night” was a big success and the sixth grade camp fund made lots of money for the kids to go to camp this year. Thank you so much for all your generous donations for our “Spider Room” in the haunted auditorium. A big “thank you” to all the parents that helped to decorate the auditorium and to those who worked at the booths!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Black

Dear Parents,

trick-or-treat
On Friday, October 28th, our class will have a candy and costume party for Halloween.  Students can come dressed in character, but violent costumes and weapons are not allowed.  Miss Ramos’ class will join us for a Halloween parade around the school and then we will have a small party. If you would like to send something to contribute to the party, 1-2 bags of wrapped candy would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Black

Fall

Dear Parents,

We have begun studying the autumn season. We talked about the changes in the weather and about how the trees have leaves that change colors during this season. We will study more about the autumn as the season progresses. The students drew themselves by a tree in the fall. They wrote the sentence “I like autumn.” We also began our unit on “apples”.

We are also writing the following sentences:
I see ____.
I can ____.
You like a ____.
You see the ____.
I like ____.
You can ____.
I can see ____.
You can see ____.
I like ____.
You can ____.
I can see ____.
You can see ____.
I like to go to the ____.
You can go to the ____.
I like my ____.
You like my ____.
I can go to the ____.

Make flashcards of the words “I”, “like”, “you”, “can”, “my”, “go”, “to”, “play”, “the”, “a”, and “see” and practice these words with your child daily. Have your child practice writing these words in sentences at home. Also practice reading the Story Charts that I have been sending home with the homework. You will find high frequency words patterned throughout these charts.

We continue to work through the entire alphabet. Please practice writing the letters in upper and lower case with your child. Make sure that he/she is forming the letters correctly. It is of utmost importance that your child begins each letter at the correct place on the lines. Have your child say the name and the sound of the letter as he/she is wrting it.

During math we have studied numbers and their values (0-10). We are learning about top, middle, and bottom as well as first, next, and last. We discussed day and night. We learned the concepts of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We also worked on the meaning of over, under, and behind. Please do activities at home to check your child on the understanding of all of these concepts.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Black
